Personal Training with Boxing London!

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of being invited to a one on one training session with Paul Carroll, master trainer at Boxing Trainer London. I’d like to think my fitness levels were pretty good but, my word, did Paul put me through my paces. If you’re looking for a personal trainer, he is your man.

I met Paul on Clapham Common and it was lovely to be outside – very refreshing! The session started with a warm up consisting of jogging, sprinting and dynamic movements to warm up your whole body; pre-warm up I had goosebumps, post-warm up I had sweat. Paul then took me through the basics of boxing, covering stance, movements, straight punches, hooks and uppercuts, ducking and defence. There is a lot to think about!

I had never tried boxing before and was surprised by just how much it involves your whole body. I found my core was key in putting power behind my punches and the way I used my legs was particularly important to punch correctly. Paul ensured that I was moving throughout the whole session and so it was a total cardio blast too! By the end of the boxing session I was absolutely knackered and the punches I was throwing were definitely suffering (not that I should think Paul will be suffering any bruises from even my strongest punches!).

Paul finished off the session with some strength and toning work, including press ups, crunches and some bicep curls using a resistance band. He really did kick my butt! The session was hard but also great fun,and I would recommend it to anyone.

It was great to spend an hour with a trainer who is welcoming and unpretentious, and I really felt at ease despite the fact that I was definitely not a natural! Paul has an impressive background; he has a BSc Hons in Sports Science, is an Advanced Level 3 PT and was British University Boxing Heavyweight Champion 1998. Definitely in safe hands! He offers both individual and multi-person personal training, and Boxing London run classes every week on a Wednesday evening and a Saturday morning.

You can tweet Paul @BoxingLondon and find more information about Boxing Trainer London on their website, www.boxingtrainerlondon.com.

I will definitely be seeing more of Paul in the future – anyone fancy coming to a class with me?!
